I know that the weather is only just starting to get cold, so thoughts of summer may be premature, but I want to share a few opportunities with you.

As many of you know, I’ve been harping on a lot of you about making sure that when you graduate you are an interesting candidate for either college or an employer. Here are two opportunities to make yourself interesting (and put something really cool on your ZeeMee profile).

Many years ago, when I was in high school and dinosaurs roamed the earth, there was a great program called the Pennsylvania Governor’s Schools. High school students could apply to spend time on a college campus taking classes in a particular area of interest and hang out with students from all over the state who shared that interest. The Governor’s Schools have changed a bit since then; they seem to come and go depending on the governor. But two schools have established programs that keep the spirit alive and well.

Interested in business? Lehigh University offers the Pennsylvania School for Global Entrepreneurship. Through this program you can spend a month (July 3 – July 30) on Lehigh’s campus taking courses in business and meeting with featured speakers. Learn more at their website.

If business is not your thing, but maybe health care is, check out The University of Pittsburgh Health Career Scholars Academy. Head out to Pittsburgh from June 26 through July 23 and explore the world of heath care…research, social work, medicine, public health, rehabilitation, and administration. (So this isn’t just doctors and nurses.) See more about this program at the Health Career Scholars Academy website.

Both of these programs are open to current sophomores and juniors. They are very competitive, so if you think you may be interested, let’s start talking now.  The application deadline for both programs is February 15th.
