With the Thrill on the Hill quickly approaching, I thought I’d showcase this awesome running book. Wendelin Van Draanen’s The Running Dream tells the story of a track star who loses her leg in an accident. Her world seems crushed, because even if she can walk again, she doesn’t think she’ll ever be able to run. But with the help of a student she only now has noticed and her friends, family, and teammates, she sees that the only thing that limits her is her imagination. I was up pretty late (for me) finishing this book. I absolutely loved it. And if you think you can’t run the Thrill on the Hill, then you need to work on your imagination.
Here’s a nice little interview with the author.
And just to show you that the facts in this story aren’t too far fetched, check out Achilles International, a running group for athletes with disabilities.
